Normas Editoriais | Editorial Guidelines

Para submeter um ensaio, short paper ou resenha para a revista, por favor encaminhe mensagem para alfredo.suppia@ufjf.edu.br com o assunto “Zanzalá submission”.

To submit an essay, short paper or review to the journal, please send a message to alfredo.suppia@ufjf.edu.br with the subject “Zanzala submission”.

1. Essay Guidelines

Essays should be approximately 4000-9000 words, written according to MLA standards (http://www.mla.org/) and include a 100 word abstract. Neither embedded footnotes nor generated footnotes that some software systems make available should be used. Electronic submissions in MS Word are encouraged. Submissions should be sent to: alfredo.suppia@ufjf.edu.br

2. Short papers

Short papers may have between 1.500 to 2.000 words. They have to make reference to works in progress on the field of the Journal.

3. Book Review Guidelines

Book reviews should be titled. The title should reflect the theme of the review. The title of the review should appear in boldface and be placed before the bibliographic information.

Bibliographic information should be listed at the beginning of the review, including: author(s) or editor (s), complete title (in italics), publication information (including city, state and publisher), year of publication, page count (including differently paginated introduction or preface), price and form of publication (hc or pbk).

Body Consciences. Sherryl Vint. Bodies of Tomorrow: Technology, Subjectivity, Science Fiction. Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 2007. 243 pp. $50 hdbk / pbk.

Book reviews should run an average of 2,500 words.

All references to outside sources should be made in the review. Reviews should not include a works cited or notes section.

Reviews should examine critically the work in question. We do not want only a synopsis of the book and the points it makes, but rather an engagement with the ideas expressed and a judgment on both their efficacy and the author’s ability to express them.

Review essays should follow the same format as above, except that they should be no less than 4,500 words. A works cited page is allowed in the case of review essays.

1. Quotations
Quotations can be direct or indirect, or in a foreign language. In this case, they should be presented in the original language with the respective translation in the footnote.

Inserted in the text: Short quotations (up to three lines) are included in the text, with quotation marks.
1.2. Indirect quotations
The source should be mentioned either in the text itself where the author’s ideas are stated, or at the end of the sentence as a bibliographic note.
2. Bibliographic notes
At the end of a quotation there should be a bibliographic note, indicating the last name of the author, the year of publication of the work followed by the number of the page where the quotation is found, and observing the punctuation to be used. e.g. (Silva 200, 45)
Complete data about the quoted work should appear in the references section.
3. Footnotes

4. References
