O PPG Saúde informa que estão abertas as matrículas para a disciplina “Special International Course: Methodological Considerations for Health Research”. Ela será ministrada entre 29/8 2 2/9/2016 pelo Prof. visitante estrangeiro:

Prof. Harald Walach, PhD: Diretor do “Instituto de Estudos Transculturais em Saúde” e Professor de Metodologia de Pesquisa da Europa Universität Viadrina (Alemanha). Psicólogo, com Phd em Filosofia e História da Ciência (Universidade de Viena) e em Psicologia Clínica (Universidade de Bale). Possui ampla experiência internacional de pesquisa em áreas como metodologia de pesquisa, mindfullness, espiritualidade e terapias complementares.
Mais de 230 artigos e mais de 4.880 citações na base Scopus (índice h = 34).

Methodological Considerations for the Evaluation of Complex Interventions
The course will discuss methodological considerations of valid research and evaluation, including placebo issues. Medical research has been under the collective hypnosis that all “worthwhile” interventions have to be better than placebo. This produces problems for all complex interventions and leads into the so called “Efficacy Paradox”. Further, internal and external validity are in an incompatibility relationship which means that the overemphasis of internal over external validity creates problems that can only be solved using a circular instead of a hierarchical approach. It will also discuss the evidence and meta-analysis of preventive and complementary approaches:

Mindfulness
Our group was the first to start the evaluation of mindfulness in Germany in the 90ies. We developed the Freiburg Mindfulness Inventory, the first active controlled trial of mindfulness, various other experimental studies, the first training of Mindfulness Based Coping with University Life for students. I will present data and framework, as well as theoretical issues.

Research in Spirituality
To present his own academic trajectory and discuss the challenges and strategies for develop a research career in spirituality and excel in it. It will include the presentation and discussion of projects developed by UFJF researchers.
