Laboratories

The program has 18 (eighteen) research laboratories, 4 (four) of Organic Chemistry, 5 (five) of Inorganic Chemistry, 3 (three) of Analytical Chemistry, 4 (four) of Experimental Physical Chemistry and 2 (two) of Computational Chemistry.

There are four large multi-user laboratories:

1) NMR Laboratory: The NMR laboratory is very modern and has a Bruker 500 MHz device for measurements in solution, and a Bruker 300 MHz for measurements in the solid state, with both being multinuclear labs. It is worth mentioning that very few chemistry departments in Brazil are counting on an NMR equipment entirely dedicated to the solid state.

2) Vibrational Spectroscopy Laboratory: The spectroscopy laboratory has two (2) Raman spectrometers (with excitation in the visible and other near infrared), an spectrometer of absorption in the infrared region with attached microscope and ATR cell, and solid for reflection system in the UV region, visible and near infrared (250-1800 nm).

3) Crystallography Laboratory: The Crystallography Laboratory has a Bruker D8 Advance DaVinci polycrystalline diffractometer. It was installed in 2015 and the diffractometer Agilent SuperNovamonocrystal purchased with the CTinfra project in 2011 became fully operational.

4) Laboratory of Micro-structure of Food: boasts with an electron microscope with bench scan Hitachi TM3000, linked to energy dispersive spectroscopy X-ray, a dynamic LDS Coulter analyzer of particle size, and an emulsifier homogenizer (maximum pressure of 1,000 bar) and a Sartorius moisture analyzer.

In experimental laboratories, we also have two research groups in Computational Chemistry with different emphases: one developing electronic structure studies in the gas phase, different chemical systems of interest, and another one involving solid research and interfaces with quantum calculations of high level for catalysts and other systems of technological interest.

The Analytical Center of the Department of Chemistry at UFJF also has the following equipment:

– GC/MS Equipment – Shimadzu

– Gas Chromatograph – Shimadzu

– Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer with graphite furnace – Thermo

– Thermal Analysis System (TG/DTA and DSC) – Shimadzu

– Spectrometer – Bruker IR region 400-4000 cm-1.

In addition to the analytical center there are six (6) small instrumentation rooms.
