Graduated in Biology by Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Master in Anthropology by Federal University of Santa Catarina, and Ph.D. in Human Sciences by Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center. He received in 2007 a Post-Doctoral scholarship with the research: Study of the therapeutic use of Ayahuasca among homeless in São Paulo”, at Federal University of Santa Catarina.

The presentation focused on the cultural and symbolic universe of Barquinha, religion “ayahuasqueira” of Brazil located in Rio Branco (Acre), which performs, among other rituals, works of “healing.” He performed a fieldwork for 10 months in Barquinha, and the central focus of the research was the role of visions produced by the ritual use of Ayahuasca in awareness processes in illness situations. These views are called by Barquinha attendees as “mirações”.
