Physical Therapy

The Course:

It offers studies of Biology, Morphological Sciences, Physiological Sciences and Pathologies. It also addresses Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biomechanics, Kinesis (the science of movement) and Functional Synergy (simultaneous action of various organs for performing a function), besides behavioural and social subjects. Theoretical and practical activities are developed with the possibility of participation in research and extension projects, professional training and teaching assistance. The last two semesters of the course consist of internship activities developed in UFJF’s University Hospital (outpatient clinics, wards and ICU), in Primary Care Units (UAP) and in clinics and hospitals belonging to the public system. The student works in these fields of Physical Therapy: trauma-orthopaedics, rheumatology, neurology, respiratory, gynaecology and urology, cardiology, geriatrics and in the three levels of health care. The college also offers the opportunity for specialization.

Professional prospects:

The physiotherapist has at hand physical and manual resources to preserve or restore people’s health condition. The professionals prevent, diagnose and treat disorders of the human body that were caused by accidents, genetic malformations or bad posture. In order to do so, the professional can assess, prescribe, plan and carry out the treatment of each condition. The university graduate uses different methods to restore and develop the physical and functional ability of each patient. The places of work include hospitals, clinics, first aid posts, public and private companies, schools, gyms, sports and recreational centres, and higher education institutions.
